Legal obligation
- For prepacked foods the mandatory food information appears directly on the package or on a label attached to it (Art. 12(2)).
- Mandatory particulars are placed in a conspicuous place, clearly, legibly and, where appropriate, indelibly. The font size has an x-height of at least 1.2 mm, or at least 0.9 mm for packaging whose largest surface is less than 80 cm2 (Art. 13(1) to (3)).
- The name of the food, the net quantity and the alcohol content for beverages above 1.2 % by volume appear in the same field of vision (Art. 13(5) with Art. 9(1)(a), (e) and (k)).
- In distance selling, the mandatory food information, except the date of minimum durability or use-by date, must be available before the purchase is concluded: on the material supporting the distance selling or through other appropriate means clearly indicated by the food business operator, at no additional cost. All particulars are available at the time of delivery (Art. 14(1)).
