Classification.

Legal obligation

  • From 20 January 2027 manufacturers mark the machinery with at least the model and the series or type, the year of construction and any batch or serial number. Where size or nature of the machinery does not allow this, the information is given on the packaging or in the accompanying documents (Art. 10(5)).
  • From 20 January 2027 the name or trade mark, the postal address (a single point of contact) and a digital means of contact of the manufacturer — website, email address or another — are given on the machinery or, if that is not possible, on the packaging or in the accompanying documents (Art. 10(6)).
  • From 20 January 2027 the CE marking is affixed visibly, legibly and indelibly to the machinery. Where the nature of the machinery does not allow this, it is affixed to the packaging and to the accompanying documents (Art. 24(1)).

Permitted digital option

  • From 20 January 2027 the instructions may be provided in digital form (Art. 10(7)). In that case the machinery or, if that is not possible, the packaging or an accompanying document states how to access them. They can be printed, downloaded and stored, and stay accessible online for at least ten years after placing on the market. On request at the time of purchase they are provided on paper within one month free of charge; for machinery intended for non-professional users the safety information is always supplied on paper.
  • From 20 January 2027 manufacturers may, instead of enclosing the EU declaration of conformity, give the internet address or machine-readable code in the instructions where it can be accessed. Digital declarations stay online for the expected lifetime, at least ten years after placing on the market (Art. 10(8)).

PreQ recommendation

  • We recommend planning the rating plate, the contact details and the access to digital instructions (for example via a QR code) together: the particulars from Art. 10(5) to (8) can then be prepared on one area and with one print data set.
  • We recommend taking the place of use of the machinery into account when choosing the material (temperature, cleaning agents, abrasion) and testing a material sample on the part before the series is printed.
