Legal obligation
- The labelling elements under Art. 17 CLP are provided on a label in physical form (Art. 34a(1)).
- The label is firmly affixed to one or more surfaces of the packaging and is readable horizontally when the package is set down normally. The particulars are clearly legible and indelible, stand out clearly from the background and are sufficiently dimensioned (Art. 31(1) and (3)).
- The minimum dimensions of the label and of the pictograms depend on the capacity of the package (Annex I Section 1.2.1.4, Table 1.3).
- From 1 January 2028 a minimum font size (x-height) under Table 1.3 and rules for the text are added: black on a white background, a single sans-serif typeface, line spacing of at least 120 % of the font size (Annex I Sections 1.2.1.4 and 1.2.1.5).
